Falls

Falls are very common as people get older.

With age, people have changes in their balance, strength, and feeling in their feet. These make people more prone to falling. About 50% of people, age 75 years or older, will fall.

If you fall at home, you may:

  • Not be able to get up
  • Fall on another person in your home
  • Break a bone — hip, knee, or arm
  • Hit your head — resulting in bleeding in the brain
  • Need to be hospitalized

Can I prevent a fall?

Ron talks about his experiences with falls. It can be common among seniors. Some people have repeat falls and falls may result in broken bones or fractures.
